Is It Summer Yet Blog Hop?

So the summer begins. I guess that means I can't complain about the cold ice and snow anymore. But not to worry I'm sure I'll be complaining about the heat soon enough. lol Because if it's not one thing it's something else. Oh to be in that perfect 80 degree sunny weather where there's a nice breeze blowing through and zero humidity. To those who have that enjoy it for those that don't hope it comes to you soon or go searching for it.

Meanwhile let's see if I can heat it up a bit in here.  Dark vamps or knights in shining armor? If anyone decides to leave a comment below and/or email me their email address to isisindc@msn.com at the end of the blog hop June 1st 10pm EST. I will choose two random winners among the commenters. One will receive a PDF copy of Dark Mist, the other will receive a PDF copy of Hold On before it releases next month.

Excerpt-

When Rose exited the airport, lightning flashed, illuminating the night sky. For a moment, everything froze, then the world turned dark again. Even though she wore a coat, she shivered and when thunder crackled overhead, goose bumps rose along her arms. This kind of weather always spooked her, but this new job in Memphis should have her crowing in triumph, and she did feel that way, until a moment ago.
She shook her head as she stood in line for a cab. Just nerves acting up, she hadn’t been sleeping lately, but she’d been excited about this move. Rose felt sorry now she didn’t let Krystal come and pick her up at the airport. It’d been late and raining and Krystal Harrington worked as an ER doctor with long hard hours. She needed her rest. Rose's plane already delayed due to weather. Still, it would have been nice to see a friendly face. They’d been best friends and roomies since college, even after college, they’d remained close. They even took vacations together, and planned a cruise next year. Now, since Rose had been transferred to the office in Memphis, she would stay with Krystal until she found a place. Rose hadn’t seen her best friend for a few months but she grew excited about them being able to spend time together again.
Rose got into the taxi and gave the driver her destination. Sitting back, she stared outside at the passing darkened landscape. This city would be her new home. Who would’ve thought a girl from a big city like Brooklyn would end up in Memphis of all places? But the company she worked for wanted her at their home office. She would’ve been a fool to turn down the promotion of Executive Business Acquisitions Director for Hydden Enterprises, or HE, as those who worked there liked to call the place. She’d worked her butt off for the company and to get a promotion.
Others told Rose, at twenty-seven, she would be the youngest person in such a high position within the company. She reported directly to the President of HE and would have a staff of four under her supervision. Not too bad for someone who didn’t know who her father was, and whose mother died when she was ten, leaving her alone to grow up in the foster care system. It could’ve been worse she supposed…She’d gotten lucky.
The Robinsons, the family who raised her were good people. She’d been their only foster, but they’d housed exchange college students in the US for a limited time, so Rose never felt lonely, and they’d been heavily involved in the local non-denominational mega-church. Through the church, she’d netted a full-scholarship to college. Even though, she didn’t embrace any one religious doctrine, she did believe something greater existed out there, which no one could control. Then, even at times, it directed humanity onto certain paths. Still, it is up to each individual to decide which road to take or not.
In her case, an opportunity presented itself and she didn’t hesitate to take it. After graduation, she’d gotten a job at Hydden and thus far, it turned out to be the right decision. Though, she missed her foster parents and didn’t enjoy moving so far away from them. Even if she hadn’t lived with them, since she’d started college, they’d been the first to encourage her to explore this opportunity.

She’d proven herself to the company by working hard and getting an MBA while working full-time and she had her foster parents to thank for her strong work ethic. As a result, Hydden rewarded her with some of the corporate secrets. Like Hydden was really operated and owned by one of the largest churches in Memphis. The locale of the real head office would be where she would actually work. Yesterday, she’d been happy and excited about this step forward in her career. Now, when the cab pulled up in front of Krystal’s house and the door opened, she found herself hesitating to step out of the car…and with no idea why.

EXCERPT

“911 Operator.”
“Hello…listen, I’m at the corner of Broad Street and Denny Way. I’m looking into the second floor of
a garden-style apartment opened onto Broad, and it looks like there’s a…a robbery taking place.” Stephan spoke anxiously into the phone, his voice cracking mid-speak.
The emergency operator on the other end replied in a steady tone, “I’m dispatching a patrol car to the area, sir. Stay on the line with me. Are you one of the victims or do you know the people involved?”
“No, no it’s not me and I don’t know them. I’m in my car. Hang on, the light’s changing.  I’m going to make a U-turn and park on the street so I can keep watch.”
He ignored the car honking at him because he cut in front of it. The building before him and the woman in trouble his only focus. The sun had been down for awhile now, but the open lighted walkway in the three-story building allowed Stephan a pretty clear view.
“Sir, I’m going to have to ask you to remain in the car,” the operator insisted in a forceful voice. “How many people are involved?”
“Two, I think. A man and a woman, I saw him grab her purse and she tried to run. Hurry!” he cried.
“Help is on the way. Please try to stay calm.”
“My God!” Stephan exclaimed. “He just hit her…she’s trying to fight him off. He kicked a door open and…he’s…he’s trying to drag her in!” His words were coming faster, rushing to get the information out. “She’s fighting back. I can’t just sit here watching this.”
“Sir, please do not leave your car,” the operator stated firmly. “The person could be armed as well as dangerous. Wait for the authorities.”
“I’m sorry. I’m already at the building. Tell the cops, when they get here, it’s the second building from the corner, second floor, the door at the top of the stairs. I’m going to leave my phone on so you can listen in, but I’m putting it in my pocket.”
Without waiting to hear a reply, Stephan did just that.
As he ran up the stairs he heard a woman’s screams. Why isn’t anyone trying to help her? He had seen three other doors with apartment numbers on this floor alone. Surely one of them was occupied. It didn’t matter, he was here and he wasn’t going to do nothing. Too late, he wished he’d taken the time to grab a tire iron from his car. But he had stopped rational thought as soon as he glimpsed the woman in trouble. He’d just have to rely on being in good physical shape. It wasn’t like he was a fighter, in truth he used his mind not his muscle. Now he may have to use both, and so far he hadn’t been using much of his so-called intelligence tonight. An intelligent person would have waited on the sidewalk and pointed the cops in the right direction.
Stephan stopped at the now closed door he had seen the man kick open. A scuff mark near the bottom of the panel confirmed he had the right place. He put his ear to the wood but could hear nothing. Turning the doorknob he found it unlocked, and cautiously pushed it open.  He slipped inside leaving it slightly ajar so the cops could enter easily.
Muffled sounds came from the interior of the apartment. Taking a step in the direction of the noise, ragged cries suddenly rent the air. A hallway, probably leading to a bedroom, stretched in front and to the right of him. There were no lights on, but the blinds were partially open, and the glow from a street lamp provided enough illumination to the small room.
Glancing to the left, he spied a kitchen. His already fast beating heart pumped more blood into his system, adding strength to his resolve. Moving quickly, he headed there first for a weapon. As soon as he pulled a knife from the block on the counter, the wail of a siren whined from a distance, at the same time he heard a scream that curdled his soul.
Throwing caution out the window he ran down the short hallway, the direction the cry had come from, fear setting his pace. Stopping in front of the only room, he gripped the open doorframe. The scene unfolding before him chilled his blood.
The dimmed overhead light showed a woman lying face down on the bed, and a man in dark clothing sat on top of her, straddling her legs to hold her down. She kept screaming and bucking to try to throw him off, but he kept laughing, and using one hand to hold both of hers on her head while he ripped her blouse with the other. So engaged in his activity, he didn’t even hear Stephan behind him.
Stephan wanted to stick the sonofabitch with the knife in his hand. But he spotted an empty metal potpourri bowl on a stand near the door. He didn’t want to shed any of the man’s blood on the woman if he didn’t have to. He put down the knife and picked up the bowl. Using all of his strength, fueled by his anger, he smashed it against the side of the bastard’s head.
Like a bowling pin toppling over, the man fell off the bed onto the floor, hopefully out cold for a while. When the weight holding her down disappeared, the woman on the bed flipped over. She raised her tear-streaked face and her eyes momentarily collided with Stephan’s before shifting to the man on the floor. As her gaze returned to his, fear flooded her beautiful chocolate-colored eyes. She gasped, and backed up against the headboard.
Even with puffy eyes, tear tracks on her face, and a bruise on her toasted almond-colored cheek her beauty still shone through. Stephan’s heart, which had been racing before, stopped in mid-beat.

Ringside, Northern Exposure and Masquerade
*note the individual works have been previously published.

Blurb-
Ringside- Atlanta Reese is the baby of the family and on a quest to find herself. Only she ends up in New Mexico and whips up a chili recipe that leaves the restaurant owner, Hank Gaines: hot, bothered, and begging for more.
Hank knew he was in trouble the moment he tasted her heat. But he had a secret he could never let Atlanta find out about or he'd lose it all.
Northern Exposure- Brittany loves the cold and adventure. She now finds herself near the Artic Circle trying out remote control panties with a Finn she met on a nude beach.
Sebastian had been waiting for a chance to get the beauty he'd seen around to himself. Now that he holds the controls, he's not giving them back.
Masquerade- Sydney as the big sister was always the responsible one, she always did the right thing. Until one night she puts on a disguise and goes after her fantasy man.
Caine knew the moment he held the masked woman in his arms she was the one for him, yet why was it when he held Sydney he never wanted to let her go.

The Three Sisters Series
What won’t these sisters do? Or the men whose hearts they've captured.
Excerpts
Ringside
Atlanta took a long sip of her beer and placed it on the napkin in front of her. Taking her book out of her bag, she began to read as she waited for her food. She was on the section, Don’t Settle for Less than you Deserve, for the third time. Right on! Atlanta’s men issues were no different than the other stuff going on in her life. She’d yet to meet one she wanted to keep, or hang around long enough to find out if he was even worth keeping.
“Welcome to Ringside. Are you finding everything to your liking?”
Atlanta moved the book from her face and looked into the light blue eyes of a striking looking man. He was tall, a little over six feet, and very well built. That was evident in the way his black shirt seemed painted on his body. His biceps screamed to get out, but he didn’t look like a body builder prepped on steroids. Just nice tight lines.
His face could have been sculpted from the finest marble; the only thing keeping his features from being too perfect was a little bump in the middle of his slender nose, like it may have been broken at some point in his life. But it only added to his overall appeal. The color of his hair drew her attention next; it was blacker than anything she’d ever seen. Thick and wavy, it hung just to his collar. She wanted to run her fingers through it and see if it felt as soft and silky as it looked.
This man was a walking orgasm, and she was not shy about her appraisal of him. She might have to keep this one for a while.
Northern Exposure
Helsinki was unusually warm this August with temperatures hitting about sixty degrees. But Brit didn’t mind; it was a welcome relief. She had been cooped up in her room since her arrival, so seeing the sun out and actually heating the earth was refreshing.
Now she could hit the clothing-optional beach.
Brit was always of the opinion that instead of wearing string that cut into your butt crack and strips of fabric that scratch your nipples, you might as well go naked. In Europe, no one really looks at you anyway.
Brit strolled down to the beach with her umbrella, magazine, blanket and iPod. She set up her spot and got comfortable on her blanket. She placed the magazine over her face, stuck the ear buds in her ears, and listened to the glorious voice of Luciano Pavarotti. Ten minutes later, she was on her way to dreamland.
This was the life. No worries. No nagging parents. No annoying, geeky ex-boyfriend. No drama.
“Hello there.”
At first she didn’t respond. She was in that state of sleep between deep REM and half awake.
“Hello? Miss?” The voice was insistent, deep and masculine.
Masculine!
It wasn’t until she felt a nudge on her shoulder that Brit threw off the magazine, and sat up on her elbows. What she was looking at could only be described as mythical beauty.
He was large, muscular, gorgeous and…nekkid! Oh God!
Masquerade
Sydney didn’t know what had possessed her, maybe Annie nudging her in the ribs, and practically pushing her toward the tall man with the broad shoulders and blond hair. Even in a room full of similarly clad men, he stood out. She had been watching him from the balcony the moment he entered the room. Annie was at her side and had pointed him out to her, but by the time her friend had spotted him she had already been watching him for five minutes make his way around the room.
From a distance, he looked like a walking fantasy, but up close his six-feet-two or more presence invited and enticed her into engaging him in pure unadulterated sex.
Eyes, the blue of the Caribbean Sea looked out at her from behind a dark mask. The black satin provided an intense contrast to his thick blond hair streaked with varying shades of gold and curled around the nape of his neck. The unmasked skin around a full sensual mouth appeared slightly tanned, like he had recently gotten a little sun. His strong squared jaw line shifted slightly as he stared at her. She couldn’t take her eyes off his face, what she could see of it. Then he smiled, showing beautiful straight white teeth and a small dimple appeared on one side of lips.
A smile of her own answered his.
Without a word, he raised his arms away from his sides, as though opening them for her to walk into. The movement brought her attention to his sculptured chest. Was that a six-pack? Maybe there was something to be said for shirtless.

Excerpt from Captivated:

“There’s a song stuck in my head.” He hummed it. “I was listening to it earlier but can’t think of
the name.” He swayed Lisa while he hummed. “It’s been a while since we danced.” He twirled them around in circles.
Lisa laughed. “Whoa! You’re putting all the moves on me.”
“You always like it when I do this.” He lifted the front of his wheelchair off the floor and came back down. “You like that, huh?”
“Whoa!” She laughed. “You’re right. It’s been a while since we went dancing.” She put her hand in his as he swerved them across the kitchen. “So we can go dancing then.” She lifted her head from his shoulder. “We could both use a break, don’t you think?” She played with a button on his shirt. “We can go to the Rush.”
He rolled his eyes. “How come we always go to the wheelchair nightclubs?”
“I thought it was your favorite place. I just want you to be comfortable.”
“I want us to go dancing for real.” He laid his arm on the armrest. “I used to love dancing.” He got teary-eyed. “I miss that the most.”
She kissed his hand.
“I wanna take you dancing like a real man would.”
“You are a real man.” She got off him. “And we can dance the regular way right here.”
He got a paper towel off the table and dabbed his eyes. “What are you talking about?”
She went across to the living room and turned on the stereo in the entertainment system.
“Okay, let’s find something good.” She stopped on her favorite station that played old-school slow jams. The sultry beginning of Aaliyah’s “Rock the Boat” began. “Uh-huh.” Lisa bobbed her head. “That’s what I’m talking about.” She shimmied back into the kitchen.
“I love this song.” Jake tossed the paper towel on the table.
Lisa stood in front of him and held out her hands. “May I have this dance?”
“What?” he whispered.
She bent down. “You said you wanted to dance the real way. Let’s dance the real way.”
“You know my legs are too weak.”
She took his hands. “Then lean on me.”
He took a deep breath and slowly rose from the chair. “Oh.”
“It’s okay.” She put her arms around him. “I got you.”
He stood straight and put his weight on Lisa. “I’m six three and two hundred pounds.” He leaned on her. “I’m gonna crush you.”
“I’m stronger than you think.” She laid her head on his chest. “Just take it slow and relax.”
He stumbled a bit then picked up his feet in perfect rhythm.
“Wow.” Lisa held him tighter. “You’re a smooth dancer, Jake.”
His lips brushed her cheek. “This feels amazing.” He swayed. “Just like the old days.”
“See?” She moved her hand up his back. “Now you’re leading.” She lifted her head. “How does it feel?”
“I…” His voice cracked. “I haven’t danced since two thousand eight.”
“Well, you’re dancing now.” She kissed him. “And you’re doing it beautifully.”

Sea Storm- Children of the Waves

IT'S HERE!

Meet Ezekiel, a prince, a son of Poseidon and Xav's younger brother.

Bring on the lightning.

Available on Amazon

The fluttering sensation coursing through his soul had Ezekiel swinging his chair around and standing up. He took two steps and stood in front of the bay windows, covering the entire back wall of his office. His view from his Cayman Island office home looked out over the blue green waters of the Caribbean. He watched several dolphins leap out of the water and he heard their song above the roar of the waves in his head. While he couldn’t exactly talk to the pod or they to him, this message all the Children would understand.

They brought him tidings. His brother Xavior had found his bride.

“Lucky b a stard,” he mumbled. Then, he chuckled. At least one of them had mated. Zek ran his blunt fingers through dark shoulder-length hair. While he loved his brother, he disagreed with him. He didn’t believe just because Xav now sat as a king on Poseidon’s throne, the unrest in their world would stop. Xav didn’t really understand, or factor in, even the Children needed to evolve and they couldn’t do it while isolated beneath the seas.

The world on land had changed and they must, too. They were the children of gods, but not gods themselves.

Welcome Rosanna Leo!

A treat today! Rosanna Leo is visiting to talk about her shifters. Welcome!

Thank you very much to LaVerne, my lovely hostess! I am thrilled to be here.

I’m here as part of my blog tour for my latest paranormal romance, Predator’s Refuge, Gemini Island Shifters 3. It’s been a wonderful experience, seeing how readers have responded to this fun and sexy series, and I look forward to penning a few more installments.
One might think writing a book 3 is a fairly simple task for an author, right? After all, you just pick up where the previous books left off. And in my case, each book always concerns a different couple, so I don’t need to worry about following the thread of one romance. However, it’s not as easy as you’d think.

There is a lot to consider as an author embarks on a next book in a series. Do the readers even want another story? Are they still invested in your characters? These are difficult questions every author needs to confront. I’m happy to see my readers have responded to the heroes and heroines I’ve created, and an interest is there.

And then you have previous plotlines to recall. Remember that minor character from book 1? Well, he might end up as the hero in book 3 or 4, so an author really needs to pay attention to the life she’s created for him. I know authors who keep poster boards in their writing spaces, detailing character histories and hook-ups.  And don’t forget all those seemingly unimportant details: jobs, family life, color of eyes, tattoos, shoe sizes.  I’ve read books where authors lose track of the hero’s eye color. Readers, especially faithful ones, will pick up on this. As authors, it’s our duty to remember how smart our readers are and to do the stories justice.

So does one dive right into a book 3 or 43? Not in my case. I always go back and reread what I’ve written in the series. I make copious notes, and burn the info into my brain. And I recheck and recheck and recheck.

I don’t think my characters would let me do it any other way.
I hope you get a chance to explore my Gemini Island Shifters series, and the world I’ve created there.

Blurb/Excerpt- Predator’s Refuge, Gemini Island Shifters 3 by Rosanna Leo

Blurb:

Lynx shifter Marci Lennox has worked at the shifter-friendly Ursa Fishing Lodge and Resort all her adult life. It’s more a home to her than a job. When her boss goes on vacation, putting her in charge, Marci is thrilled. Finally a chance to prove she has the mettle to run a resort.

Her confidence is shaken when new employee Anton Gaspar appears. One look at the mysterious tiger shifter spells trouble for Marci and for her sex-crazed lynx. Anton is judgmental, condescending, and a little misogynistic. Unfortunately, Marci’s lynx thinks his tiger is more delicious than an oversized bag of Maltesers.

It becomes difficult for Marci to remain neutral near Anton, especially when she learns of his troubling past and unusual family circumstances. However, when dangerous incidents occur on the resort, the lynx woman and tiger man join forces to combat the threat to the lodge and its guests.
Harder still is the quest to combat their explosive feelings for one another. As they explore their mutual passion, they realize the danger at the resort is more insidious than they ever envisioned. Their dreams, their love, and their very lives are at stake.

Excerpt:

Immediately, the fragrance hit him, activating his Jacobson’s organ. He swallowed, tasting it on his tongue and at the back of his throat, and wondered if he was mistaken.

No, how could he mistake the unique scent of a female cat in heat? It was too delicious a scent to forget. Sweetness coated his taste buds, winding a delirious path down his throat. As his head swam, he blinked and tried to clear his thoughts of the sexual imagery racing through it.

The scent did not belong to another tiger shifter, but some other type of predatory cat. One whose perfume he hadn’t sampled before. One who must be particular to this region. Cougar? No. Mountain lion? Surely not.

Whatever she was, her scent teased him with its delicious flavor.

Don’t, he warned himself. Wasn’t it enough that he spent the last few years of his existence trying to escape the sick wiles of the grasping women at court? And God only knew how hard he’d worked to maintain a state of abstinence at Pannonhalma, devoting his life to meditation. He’d come here to work, not lose himself in a sweet piece of…

Stop it. This was no time to think of pussy, even though he’d never been more desperate for a taste of creaming woman.

His tiger howled inside him, hungry for that which it had been denied for almost two years.
Still the perfume, more intoxicating than any he’d known, wafted toward him. He wanted to close his eyes and drink it in. The unyielding power of the aroma could make him forget his vows. Granted, he wasn’t really a monk, but he had followed the monastic lifestyle from day one at Pannonhalma. The purity in the monk’s life had been the very thing he’d required to get his life back on track.

So why did he want to find the source of the scent and fuck her until she begged alternately for mercy and for more? Her need seemed strong. Whoever this lady cat was, she must be in dire agony for her scent to be so powerful.

None of his business.

Mentally caging the growling tiger inside him, he shook his head and approached the front desk. He dropped his luggage and cleared his throat at the woman working there. Her head had been down as she read some reports, but she looked up now.

“Welcome to the Ursa…” Her jaw fell open and her sentence hung in the air, unfinished and clearly forgotten.

Well, well. A beautiful little lynx.

A discussion about my writing...at least today.

1) What am I working on?
Well the question should be, what should I be working on? lol I'm supposed to be working on new work today. A sci/fi new adult work called Shadow War . It's about two aliens who were hidden here on earth at an early age they look human, but don't realize they're not. But instead I'm working on the edits for a high fantasy story, Journey Of The Princess Of Ice- The Elementals, which will be re-released, fingers crossed, in Mar. 2014. It's the story of a race of elementals but it focuses on a race of ice elementals. I've got 4 books planned in the series and each will feature different elements and heroes and heroines but the stories will all involve, Ice, the heroine.

2) How does my work differ from others of its genre?
The work I'm currently editing is different because it involves unusual creatures. I've created a world where the elements are alive, represented as a race of beings and magic is normal. Earth, fire, wind, and water will all be represented in this story, but with a twist. For instance, the water element is frozen water so ice, and demons are the fire elements. This is not earth or a contemporary world, but one I created from my imagination. There's no technology, as we know it there. It's primitive by any standard, think middle ages where travel is done on foot, horse or other magical creature, or sometimes for those with the knowledge, via portals. The other thing that differs is even though it's fantasy work it's interracial/multicultural, because each pairing will be with a being of a different race with their own issues, stereotypes and prejudices.

3) Why do I write what I do?
I actually write in multiple genres. I believe it's one reason I don't get writer's block (knock on wood). I write contemporary, fantasy and sci/fi under LaVerne Thompson and romantic suspense and new adult under Ursula Sinclair. Although I will not discount some crossover work. lol I write because I must.

4) How does my writing process work?
For the most part I get an idea sometimes as little as a title and I write. I let the characters voices guide me. So I'm predominantly a pantser. I rarely do outlines and if I do it's rough like the names of the characters, powers, settings and a few main scenes. I've written work where I wrote the prologue and then the end. Then had to go back and write the rest of it. lol I've also started with a scene in the middle. In my Ballerina Series Book 1 started with the ballerina's fall and the rest of the story was built around that one scene. lol

The Impossible Possible by Deatri King-Bey

Book Into: The Impossible Possible by Deatri King-Bey

One of the reasons I love romance so much is taking the common themes and doing something completely different with them. My favorite traditional romance theme has always been the baby daddy theme. In it the heroine hides the fact that she’s had the hero’s child from him. Then years later, they meet again and he discovers the secret! Yeah, I love that one. In my new title, The Impossible Possible, I decided to switch it up a bit. This time the hero hides the fact that he’s the heroine’s son’s father. Hmmm, impossible you think? After you read The Impossible Possible, let me know what you think.

The Impossible Possible
Bryanna Martin has given up on finding her happily ever after. The only way she’ll fall in love and marry is if God sends her Mr. Right to her door. Since she doesn’t believe that will happen, she devotes her life to her adopted son and career. Then the impossible happens, the perfect man literally shows up at her door. Drawn to the handsome stranger, Bryanna wonders if this is one impossible that can become possible.

Alejandro Montenegro, CEO of a Global 500 corporation, dropped everything to catch a flight and claim a son he didn’t know about. When he arrives, he discovers his child is not in foster care being abused, but in the loving care of a golden goddess. To spare his son from losing the only mother he has ever known, Alejandro decides to remain silent about his son’s paternity and pursue Bryanna, but then the impossible happens. He falls in love and knows she will leave him if she discovers his secret.
