And a chance to meet a few fabulous authors, the awesome cover artist Fiona Jayde and maybe maybe even a model or two. So join me at the link below and let's celebrate. Party on!
Please welcome my close friend and author Scarlet Hunter as she talks about her latest. Heaven's Sacrifice.
I’m so glad to be here today, LaVerne! I’m a HUGE fan of
your work, so for you to have me here, I’m overly excited and still pinching
myself.
You are too funny, glad to have you here. And ditto lady. mwah. LaVerne
So, tell me a little
about your book, Heaven’s Sacrifice.
Sure. Percival, the hero in my book, is an angel who’s
finally given his first assignment. To go to earth and save a human soul.
However, when he gets there, he is put to the test by two sisters. At first, he
can’t decide on which sister is in need of saving. Spending time with the two,
he learns they both do, but in different ways. Only in time, he realizes which
one he must save. And yet, he is pulled toward the other putting him at risk of
failing his mission. The outcome, should Percival fail in saving the one he is
assigned, will result in him losing an angels most cherished possession—their
wings.
So…basically, he must decide…but who will he choose to save?
Tell us a little more
about these sisters?
Well, they couldn’t be more different, let me tell ya. They
are—Brianna and Ava. They help their uncle run a Beachfront condo resort in
Kure Beach, North Carolina. When unfortunate circumstances occur and their
uncle gets ill, it is up to them to help keep the resort stay up and running.
Brianna, younger sister to Ava. A flamboyant, wild and
arrogant girl. This young lady needs a little lesson in life, amongst other
things. She’s too hell bent on getting any and all the men’s attention rather than
helping her sister around the resort.
Ava, on the other hand, is the total opposite of her sister.
Quiet, shy, yet loyal and trustworthy. She takes on a lot of responsibility focusing
on helping her uncle; not wanting to let him down. She ends up taking care of everyone
and everything, except one person—herself. She needs saving, but in a whole different
way.
I’d love to share a little teaser, if I may?
Excerpt:
Materializing on earth, Percival appeared and
stood on the sand, next to a long worn-out catwalk. He scanned the countless
planks of rotten wood. They undoubtedly needed some TLC in more ways than one.
By the looks of the property surrounding it, the newspaper ad was spot on. A
skilled handyman was needed for this kind of job.
For a moment, he savored the calming, therapeutic waves crashing on shore. The
sound felt like an explosion of love over the soul. Percival prayed with
thanks, glad his mission had brought him near the Atlantic Ocean.
Lifting his foot, he placed it on the edge of the catwalk and putting some
weight on it, wiggled his leg a few times on the board to ensure it would hold
him. Convinced it would, he placed his full weight on the plank and noticed the
whole length of the catwalk was covered with pieces of slivered wood, poking
out from its depleted state. Thankful his sandals protected his feet, he
proceeded toward the building.
In the heavens and before leaving, the angels were normally briefed about their
assignments. Yet, Percival wasn’t given specifics for his mission. He certainly
would not question the lack of information, because in Heaven, one never asked
questions but is grateful for the facts received. If God thought angels needed
to know more, he made sure they did.
Everything has a purpose.
When he advanced, he inspected the building. Percival could tell it’d been
constructed of the same wood as the catwalk and in the same dire need of
attention. As his gaze skimmed up and across its surface, he imagined the
structure probably appeared very elegant back in its day, yet now seemed in
disrepair.
Unexpectedly, a squeal came from behind him, catching him off guard. Percival
turned to find a small boy pointing at him while tugging at his father’s swim
shorts. Funny, how he hadn’t even noticed them when he arrived. He needed to be
more careful and assess his surroundings first.
“Look Pa. That man has wings!”
Oops, forgot about
you two back there. Percival willed his thick, colossal set of feathery, white wings
to fade from the mortal eye. He then nodded at the father and winked at the
boy, who now displayed a saddened expression.
“I swear, Pa, he did—just like the Archangel.”
The father took the boy by the hand and led him toward their car. “Not everyone
is a comic book character, son. C’mon, let’s go home.”
Relieved his carelessness didn’t require him to handle the situation further,
Percival watched the two leave.
The boy’s face remained glued to the passenger window of the SUV until they
were out of sight. No doubt, waiting and hoping for the set of wings to
reappear.
Cracking a smile at how he loved the Children of God, Percival returned his
attention to his task. He reached into the front pocket of his jeans. After
pulling out a piece of torn paper, he glanced at the newspaper ad, then at the
building. Confirming the numbers 882 barely hanging above the door’s entrance,
he double-checked the name Ava, he’d written under the job qualifications. When
she answered his call, the sound of her voice sang like church bells. Soft and
angelic, it carried the slightest hint of a twang he’d never heard before. He
sensed right off, she was unique by the way she spoke to him. Percival liked
her instantly and looked forward to meeting her.

I want to thank
LaVerne for having me over today. This book is a big deal for me, andI love giving the inside story about
it. They say you have to continue to challenge yourself in your career. Believe
me when I say, Spun was a challenge. When I first started writing back when I
was about fifteen, I knew I wanted to write Paranormal Young Adult Romance.
When I sat down to seriously write almost 15 years later, what came out was
anything but suitable for young adult. Despite my muse’s pension for liking
things on the naughty side, I held out hope of one day returning to my first
love. Then an incredible thing happened, New Adult.
Spun is my very first
step into that world. Nevada is a young woman who grew up in the M.C.
(motorcycle club) culture. With a self-centered mother, and an absentee father,
she’s had no one but herself to depend on. Then she winds up in a situation
that requires protection from a brother, and in steps Wizard. I loved Wizard,
he was strong alpha male, who knew how and when to bend. Sensitivity might not
have come easily to him, but he was willing to learn to keep the relationship
developing with Nevada moving forward.
You’ll find a lot of
twists, turns, and high emotion in this novel length contemporary romance.
Blurb
Born to a King of Chaos patch holder with a case of
wanderlust and a self-centered mother, twenty-one-year-old Nevada Weber is used
to taking care of herself. She's spent her life skating by on her wits and pure
determination. When she lands in a situation, she can’t haggle her way out of,
she’s forced to rely on another brother for help.
Club enforcer Gage “Wizard” Carmody has done his
job too well over the years. Icy and numb on the inside, he walks around in a
prison of his making. When the bright green-eyed girl he helped raise winds up
unclaimed and in need of protection he steps in seeking redemption. In a life where destruction lurks around the
corner, they discover something with the potential to bring healing and
happiness. But when you live in Chaos nothing goes as planned.
Shyla Colt grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio, but has lived a variety of
different places thanks to her wanderlust, interesting careers, and marriage to
a United States Marine. She's always loved books and wrote her very first novel
at the age of fifteen. She keeps a copy of her first submission letter on her
desk for inspiration.
After a lifetime of traveling, she settled down and knew her time had come to
write. Diving into her new career like she does everything else, with
enthusiasm, research and a lot of prayers, she had her first book published in
June of 2011. As a full-time writer, stay at home mother, and wife, there's
never a dull moment in her household.
She weaves her tales in spare moments and the evenings with a cup of coffee or
tea at her side and the characters in her head for company. A self-professed
rebel with a pen. Her goal is to diversify romance as she continues to genre
hop, and offer up strong female characters.

Before I even start this, I have to give a shout out to one of the best cover designers in the business and the people who made these beautiful covers possible. I gave Fiona Jayde the concept for my creatures, found the models, Jimmy Thomas shot by Bruce Heinsius, Shannon Robinson shot by Rob Bampton, and Adam Fletcher shot by FuriousFotog aka Golden Czermak. Then look what Fiona came up with. She FRIGGING ROCKS! So do the models and photographers! Creating a feast for the eyes combination. Okay on to post. lol
Most authors are asked how do you come up with your ideas? I
think the better question is, what gives you inspiration? Most ideas have been
done, but these in turn inspire you to push a little more. Stray outside of the
lines and change the colors of the palette. Hell, change the style of brush.
That’s what I did with this series.
I’ve always been fascinated by the concept of mermaids. Seriously,
most people with little girls know the story of The Little Mermaid, Ariel. But, stories of mermaids with tails in the sea yet able to walk on land with two legs, predates even that
beloved movie. Thus, was my inspiration for Children of the Waves, the idea of people of the sea, but changing the lore to not just those who can walk on land but also in the
water. In other words, my sea people don’t have tails, fins, gills, etc. I thought, why
should they? Now this concept too has been done, don’t ask me by whom, I can’t
remember off the top of my head, but it has.
Anyway, I needed to bring something a little different to
my sea people. For one thing I don't refer to them as mermen/mermaids. I call them Sea Children or Children of the Waves. Mine are the sons and daughters of Poseidon, Greek, since he’s in charge
of all things in the deep blue seas (as opposed to Neptune, Roman). But I still
needed something to make my story stand out. So I created cousins, if you will in my own mind,
between mermaid lore with The Wizard of Oz. lol yep. My story won’t have one
witch but two. Sisters. The good witch and the bad witch. The Sea Witch and her
sister The White Witch. I liked the idea of the white witch being the bad one.
*grins* And of course there is always a quest, bad guys, and evil creatures. And in my books a few fight scenes. lol Oh and a little sex. *winks*
From that point I kept the Greek aspects of the story, but tossed in the concept of Hades to the mix. Why not? I added a few more specifics I
won’t mention here. You have to read the books. *grins* But to spice things up
even more. Well, you know how mermaids/mermen can seem kinda young? I began
writing the first book when my kids were about 13 and 14, yes puberty (they're in college now). So I
made that part of the story, the angst of being an eternal teen. They were driving me nuts at
that time, wanting to be older faster. And me holding them back.
My Sea Children only age until they are thirteen or
fourteen, remain in that physical state for years, sometimes over a hundred
years. Yikes! The horror. Can you imagine? Yep, I could. I did. My creatures
stay that way until they meet their fated brides or mates. At which point, when they touch, even if only by hand, a
chemical reaction happens between them. Only
then does the aging process kick in again and they begin to age. Thus, they’re
referred to as Children because they seem to be forever young. The kicker is
they might not always know who triggered the aging process or even exactly when
it started. And believe me they want to know. Why? I will leave you on this
note. Only their bride or mate can trigger an orgasm. *wicked grin*
Oh and yes. There is a book 4 Sea Child. hehehehehe there is a snippet at the end of Sea Witch.
SEA WITCH-
Children of the Waves #3
COMING
06/01/2015
What the hell do you mean I
can't claim you?
Aaron
is a Child of the Waves and he's searched for his bride for over a hundred
years. Always seeking never finding. Then when he finally does, he’s got a
choice: claim her and risk the destruction of his people, or let her go and
risk the destruction of his soul.
Sienna
has always known who her mate was, in fact, she took great pains to never cross
his path. Until one day, she could avoid him no longer. As the witch of the
sea, she had to warn him of the horror their world would face if she were to
become his bride.
They
each had a duty to perform, even at the sacrifice of the other. Sienna must
pass through the dark depths to enter the very gates of Hades and Aaron must
let her go.
For 200 some years Xavior, a child of the waves, has searched
the seven depths for his bride only to find her on land. How could a landwalker
be his Queen, the one destined to stop the wars among the sea tribes? But one
touch and he knew he'd defy Poseidon himself to make her his.
Cori Daniels hated the water; she'd been on
board the luxury ocean liner for 2 days and hadn't left her cabin. But when she
finally ventured on deck she met a man who looked like a sea god and tempted
her like no other. But he tempted her to follow him into the sea.
For so long Des’ life was a lie. She had to hide who she
really was from the world. Her survival and that of her family depended on her
continuing those lies. But it was never harder than when she had to lie to the
man she loved.
She was lying to him. Zek knew the woman in his
house, in his arms was the bride he’d searched for all of his existence. But as
a son of Poseidon nothing and no one would stop him from claiming that which
was his.
Jackson Belle, the son of a prominent family of landscapers
and architects whose work has been the “Showcase of the South”, goes to take
what he thinks is a routine job for his father who is soon in bed after a fall.
He soon finds himself going to Gladstone Manor, a home well known in town as a
house that once would host grand balls and parties for the town. But is nothing
more than a shell of its former glorious self. Soon Jackson finds himself
diving deep within the mystery of Gladstone Manor and its owner Brooke Langley.
Brooke Langley’s life at Gladstone Manor at one time was
wonderful and she enjoyed the many memories she had as a child, watching the
many people coming to the parties and balls that her parents would give. But a
tragic accident leaves Brooke in seclusion, afraid of what the world outside of
the Manor would think of her now. It isn’t until Jackson Belle comes into her
life and shows her that someone does care that slowly starts to come out to the
world and soon finds true love as well.
“Let me ask you this, do you remember Mr. Langley’s
daughter?”
“You mean, Brooke,” Jackson’s mother interjected as she
came in with a tray holding Howard’s lunch.
“Brooke, that’s her name, right?”
“Oh yes, I remember Brooke, she was such a sweet child.
Always smiling and making everybody around her laugh. Such a beautiful child
with so much life in her until that evil woman of a stepmother messed her up. I
remember Walter was so heartbroken by what happened. He knew they didn’t get
along because they were like oil and water, they just didn’t mix well. She
hated Brooke because she was the apple of Walter’s eye and a constant reminder
of her late mother. She got more of his attention and her stepmother hated her
with a passion because of that. When she had the accident, her father had her
going to all kinds of doctors and surgeons, even sent her to Europe to see a
specialist who dealt with people in her situation. After Walter died, she
stayed in Europe for the longest time. Some people thought that she had passed
away but then one day, word got out that groceries and other things were being
delivered to the Manor.” She stared at the photo of Brooke by the fountain.
That entire day while at his father’s, they both worked on
the plans for the garden. He would go from his father’s work area to his father’s
bedroom to see what he thought of the plans so far.
“Sweetheart, you have a phone call. I think it’s from the
Manor,” Nancy said, popping her head in the room while Jackson drew on the
blueprint.
Picking up the phone, Jackson said, “Hello.”
“Hello, Mr. Belle, this is Brooke Langley calling,” a soft,
mellow voice said on the other end.
“Hello, Ms. Langley, it’s nice to finally hear from you.
How are you?”
“Fine, thank you, I talked with Nora and I just wanted to
see what your point of view on the condition of the garden.”
“Well, I will tell you that it needs plenty of work but
it’s a job that I look forward to starting. I am always up for a challenge. I
told Nora I wanted you to make a list of things you might want to see in your
garden. Have you started yet?”
“Yes, I have. I was trying to go by memory, but there’s
plenty I want to add. I have to say I’m pretty excited that this is being done.
It’s been a long time since I’ve seen the garden the way it was before.”
Her voice entranced Jackson. “I can come get the list from
you if you want. That way, I can show you what I have so far.” Jackson replied,
hoping she would agree to meet in person.
At first, he heard nothing and thought that maybe she hung
up the phone. “Hello? Are you there, Ms. Langley?”
“Yes, I’m still here. I don’t think it would be a good idea
to meet just yet. I can have Nora give you the list when you get here, if
that’s all right?”
“That would be just fine, Ms. Langley. But I do hope to get
the chance to actually see you one of these days, face to face.”
“Take care, Mr. Belle.” She hung up.
The conversation left Jackson with a sense of accomplishment
in what he’d done so far. Also, he felt curious, wondering who the woman behind
the voice was.
I was tagged by two lovely ladies both awesome authors, Violette Dubrinsky and Yvonne Nicolas to share 7 things about my writing process. Here goes:
1. I write every day. If I’m not writing something is seriously wrong. Lol I've got to otherwise the damn voices drive me batty and I'd be on Valium or some equivalent. I'll even get up at 2am and write because suddenly a scene is crystal clear and I MUST GET IT DOWN. Doesn't matter if it's something in the end or middle of the story.
2. I don't do outlines, maybe just the bare bones, names, places, appearances, if it's a series and there are multiple parts to it. Why? Because with all the thought and time I take to do an outline I could have finished half the book. And well, my characters also have a tendency to NOT follow any preconceived notions of who they are supposed to be that I might have or what should happen next. Yeah, they have some strong opinions, and that doesn’t necessarily come through until I actually begin to write them and get into their heads. So if I write them according to an outline they will mutiny until I let them tell their story. So no. No outlines. Wait, the only exception but still a barebones outline, is when I’m co-writing work and it’s active writing. Meaning we write the story together or from a particular POV. Still, the story is so much in my head that it’s difficult. My co-authors and I have to understand each others styles for it to really work.
3. My stories can start at the beginning, the middle or the end and what's supposed to happen can come to me at anytime as I write. So I jot the scene down go back to the chapter I'm working on and keep writing until I get to that scene in the story like I'm supposed to. It knows where it's supposed to go I'm just along for the ride.
4. I usually have 2 or 3 documents open at a time I work on. Because I work on more than one story at a time, in different phases, and I might also be editing one or two more. I also write in multiple genres and under 2 names. One because my brain just works that way. I can compartmentalize and my prior profession as a lawyer also trained me to multitask better, so heck 3 or 4 stories going is nothing compared to working 50 cases a week. lol and, Two I firmly believe it's what keeps writers block, at least for me, away. When I get to a point in a story I need to pause or mull things over a bit or when my charrie goes quiet I just go back to one of the other ones. By that point I can see where it needs to go to move the plot/characters forward. The exception like with other authors I’m sure is when I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Then I have tunnel vision it’s almost like a frenzy with me. I have to write THAT story and only that one to get to that ending because the characters will not leave me be until it’s done. Yeah, I’ve pulled all nighters to do it too. Lol And after I’m done I treat myself depending on the time of day to a half glass of Chardonnay or a piece of Godiva dark chocolate. *grins*
5. I have a home office and I write there as well as in my bedroom, on the bed or the sitting area, my husband's office, the family room, the basement. I just need to be comfortable. Depending on the scene I’m working on I’ll have the TV on usually reruns so I don’t get drawn in, I just need the sound of voices in the background, sometimes I write to music. When I wrote the first two books in the Ballerina Series I listened to a lot of Eminem and Koolio. The beats were just right. But my music taste is eclectic and depends on my moods and the story. While writing Dante’s story book 3 in the series I listened to a lot of Tchaikvsky. Dante is not Maze so neither should his music be. Besides, like I said, eclectic.
6. I have a note pad where I jot ideas down but I also use my iPad and iPhone to take notes. I have a list of names that I like whenever I come across a name I find interesting I add it to this list. I also make notes of song titles that speak to me, there is a story behind every song. So far most of the homes I describe in my stories I’ve been in. Sometimes I combine features from two or three of them, but others are described as is. That said while I don’t use people I know as characters I do use aspects of their personalities and combine them with others but they’d never be able to find themselves lol. I have used interesting names of friends as side characters and as a nod to them, always in a fun way so they get a kick out of seeing their names in one of my stories.
7. As busy as I am almost without fail I will be in the middle of something and then get a brilliant idea, at least in my mind lol, for another story. I have to stop what I’m doing jot it down or else it’s gone forever. At some point it makes it to my WIP folder. There aren’t many subjects in any romance genre I don’t have an idea already written down about I can pull from to create a story on the fly. Oh and the other thing I back up everything once a week now. I learned that lesson the hard way. I lost 300 WIP stories and ideas in a computer once so yeah.
Whew! I did it! Now I challenge Stephanie Williams Stacy Deanne Gracie Wilson Taabia Dupree Eryn Black to share 7 things about their writing process. *grins*
*Taabia Dupree, Amazon Best Selling Author of Jessica's Obsession, wants readers to know that WolfsBlood has mature content.*

Kaine sat at his desk and read his brother
Aohdan's letter over.
Kaine! Da is sick! You have to come back
home. Aiden was told to not write. I was away and when I returned Da was down.
Brother it hurts me to see him this way. I do not know if he will be in this
world for long and it worries me. Rua Rainer has stepped up to help the young
ones and my fur bunches to think Aiden or I were because of how he is taking
care of the young ones. Kaine come home! No more wasting time away. Ma is gone,
and Da has been going downhill for years. He tells you only what he wants you
to know. He knows you will not listen to anything else. Brother I am telling

dies and our family will no longer rule these mountains.
Kaine stopped reading, grabbed his keys
off his desk and walked out of the office to his car.
Once inside the car he slammed his fist
against the windowpane. He could care less that he’d hit the window so hard it
shook.
He yelled, "Da, what are you thinking
letting that animal come near our clan?"
Kaine pounded
the steering wheel. His body was tense, and his blue eyes turned gray. He
needed to calm himself he thought.

What happens when a sheltered cat-shifter and a dark
fey come together?
Three-hundred years is a long time, but left to its
own devices, what began as the vendetta of one man can grow to encompass even
more formidable hatred.
Daitre Salons is a beautiful but naïve heiress whose
true heritage has been kept secret even from her. Now, her abilities are
emerging and her father’s enemies want her dead, but what bothers her most is
that her new husband “in name only” insists on treating her like a child.
Joban Beaucoup, professional guard to the Salons
family, and dark fey (alternate spelling from Vodouin origin), has chosen to
leave the quaint yet suffocating French town of his orphan-childhood and
venture to the Americas, but he needs one thing he cannot concoct, despite his
magical abilities – a wife.
When Joban agrees to marry Daitre and take her to
the Americas with him, he carries her three-thousand miles away, then whisks
her three-hundred years into the future to assure her safety, but while Daitre
struggles to adjust to this strange new world, manage her newfound powers, and make
peace with her feelings for Joban, Joban learns that even here, their enemies
have followed them, now more deadly than ever.
Daitre
instinctively wrapped her arms around Joban’s neck, wonder overshadowing every
other thought and emotion.
Before she could
blink, he slid her arms from him and took a step back. She blinked again and
glanced around, the environment too strange for comprehension. What seemed like
millions of images flashed around her synapses at once.
She closed her
eyes again and did her best to ignore the rocks in her stomach, but the feeling
of rejection would not go away. She’d over-stepped. He made it clear he did not
want to be touched. Apparently he’d meant what he said about their marriage
being a union in name only, and God alone knew where he’d brought her.
The magical orb
resurfaced in her mind and she watched Joban in awe. She’d always known he was
a time bender, and he’d even flashed her from one place to another before, but
his particular species of fey were so rare, she’d never met another, and no
matter what she thought she knew, experiencing the phenomenon was no less
overwhelming and amazing.
Everything
seemed to happen in a flash, glimpses of familiar and unfamiliar things slowly
registering as the light faded. Joban told her they were in The Americas, the
United States of America to be exact, three-hundred years in the future, the
twenty-first century, and he began showing her odd clothing.
“Things are very
different here and now, Daitre. You will need to adjust as fast as possible. I
got these for you after your father told me your size. They will take some
getting used to, but dressing is much easier in this century, I imagine.”
“What part of
America are we in?”
“We are in a
place called New Orleans, Louisiana. I should have family here, and so should
you.” He waved across his left hand and a picture appeared.
“This is a map
of the United States. We are here,” he said, pointing to the bottom tip of
Louisiana.
Daitre frowned.
“What is it,
Princess?”
She placed her
hands on her hips and folded her arms. “The picture in your hand. That’s
something else I did not know you could do.”
“And why does
this trouble you?”
She waved him
away, the frown morphing into a scowl as she raised her voice. “I do not know.
You are all I have, yet I know nothing about you for certain. I find it very
troubling.”
He sighed, but
otherwise said nothing.
Daitre fingered
her gown and glanced warily at the pants, dresses, and other garments he’d
purchased. All of her beautiful things were left behind – gowns, jewels,
everything left in Monsieur Beaucoup’s carriage.
She wrapped her
arms around her midsection. “No.”
“'No,' what?”
His ominous tone did nothing to help the situation.
“No, I will not
wear those. They are the garments of a harlot, and all of my things have been
left in another place and time.”
